DOT-ARMM Joins WOW (Women of War) – Matanog in celebrating 2017 Womens Month
The Department of Tourism ARMM joined the Local Government of Matanog in their celebration of National Women’s Month. One of the highlight of the activity under their Gender and Development program is the WOW (Women of War)
Matanog assembly, to which main goal is the promotion of the organization’s local products such as the SAKURAB (Local Iranun/Maranaw spice) Palapa and their Native Coffee. The Women of War Matanog was formed 5 years ago under the supervision of their first lady Director Zuhoria B. Guro. WOW women has been duly registered as an organization under the Department of Labor and Employment on December 17,2013 that caters to over 200 women who are orphans and widows of war in Matanog circa 2000. The women of WOW represents the 8 baranggays of the Municipality and its main goal is to generate income for the welfare of the women who have been survivor of war. The organization creates livelihood for each members by producing their well known SAKURAB and Native Coffee. Moreover the Wow matanog is a GAD Galing awardee for two consecutive years.
The aforementioned celebration and activity was held at Lake Marayag pavilion to which considered as a tourist destination of the Municipality, located at Baranggay Bayanga Norte, MATANOG the last barangay of the Municipality. Lake Marayag has been dreaded before for it’s notoriety as salvage area during the Matanog siege on year 2000. To discourage the fear of the passerby’s to the place, the first couple Mohammad Ali Guro and Director Zuhoria B. Guro had conceptualize the place to turn it into a tourist destination hence its innovation today. Lake Marayag opened to public two years ago, the locals said that the Lake used to be small but have grown wider through out the years. The lake is also abundant with fresh water fish such as mudfish, catfish, tilapia and carp. The women in Marayag’s practice is to wear a malong when you are in the vicinity. The Lake Marayag pavilion also caters for any type of occasions for free as a help to their indigent people.
